Greetings from the executive arm of Association of Resident Doctors under Edo State Government Employment (ARD EDGE).
Today marks Day 2 of our strike action, and our stance remains firm. We did not take this decision lightly. This industrial action is a call for fairness, dignity, and a better healthcare system for Edo State.
Our members have shown great unity and resilience during this period, and we appreciate the understanding of the public. This strike is not against the people, it is for the people, because a demoralized and poorly supported healthcare workforce cannot deliver quality care.
Our Demands Are Clear and Simple
We are not asking for the impossible. Our demands are both simple and inexpensive, yet their fulfillment will have a far-reaching impact on the healthcare system in Edo State:
1. Prioritize the promotion of doctors under the Ministry of Health by the Civil Service Commission, with complete arrears paid.
2. Renovate/Remodel the doctors’ residence, which is currently in an uninhabitable condition.
3. Pay the outstanding CONMESS arrears owed to doctors.
4. Settle all promotion arrears for doctors under the Hospitals Management Agency (HMA).
5. Immediate payment of the 2024 and 2025 MRTF to beneficiaries.
Why This Matters
These are not luxury demands. They are basic necessities that reflect respect for the work doctors do every day to keep Edo State healthy. When doctors live in poor conditions and wait endlessly for promotions and arrears, morale suffers. When morale suffers, patient care suffers.
The Way Forward
We call on the Edo State Government to show responsive leadership by acting swiftly. The issues we have raised do not require complex processes or massive funds. They require priority and political will.
As we continue this strike, our position remains unchanged:
• Until these demands are met or we have a clear and workable timeline for everything, we will remain on this course.
• We will continue to advocate for the dignity of our profession and the health of our people.
Edo State deserves a functional healthcare system, and doctors deserve fairness. This is why we fight.
